|The Little Door|
Every Tuesday, The Little Door brings you jazz nights in all shapes, colors and moods.
This week in ALL THAT JAZZ, The Bombay Jazz Club is back at The Little Door!
Founded by D. Wood and Rajesh Punjabi, The Bombay Jazz Club has been consistently producing programs of live Jazz including at Whistling Woods International’s creative arts space, the Bandra Base, its headquarters.
With core members forming the Bombay Jazz Club House Band, they have played host to legions of outstanding musicians from all across India and the world. The Bombay Jazz Club has been instrumental in keeping Jazz as a central feature of the busy music scene.
Their ever expanding repertoire includes Funky grooves, Wailing improvisation, Jazzy riffs, Latin beats, and soulful, swinging non-stop music making.
The Ensemble Cast includes Singing sensation Samantha Edwards, Keyboard Master Karim Ellaboudi, Drum Guru Aron Nyiro, and Bombay Jazz Club Co-founder D.Wood on Bass. And here’s what you need to know about each of these Musicians:
Samantha Edwards began her musical journey on stage at the age of five and turned ‘professional’ at fourteen. In 2001, Samantha pieced together her Jazz and Blues band – Samantha Edwards with Take 4. Over the last 25 years, she has performed at close to a thousand live gigs, and on several hundred films and advertisement jingles.
Aron Nyiro decided to pursue the music profession during high school. After he finished BA studies in jazz drums, he was freelancing and playing with the very best of the Hungarian pop and jazz scene where his unique touch for Latin music became obvious. He graduated in 2014 and started establishing a professional practice by taking gigs, tours, studio work all around Europe. From January of 2016, Aron is the HOD of the drum department of the brand new True School of Music in Mumbai, India.
Originally from Sudan & Egypt, grown up in the UK and now living in Mumbai, Karim Ellaboudi is one of the most in-demand sessions players in the Indian music circuit. He’s known for his immense energy, his virtuosity and his very engaging rhythmic sensibilities.
D.Wood, has a long association with this city as a performer, composer and educator. D is responsible for keeping Jazz in Mumbai very much in the center of the overall music scene.
